Pretty damned good for its time January 20, 2006 Donna Di Giacomo (Philadelphia, PA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Dr. Goldberg was very brave to write about past and future lives in the early-80's - a time when people were extremely hesitant about putting their experiences with both phenomenons into print for fear of ruining their professional reputations. Although Dr. Goldberg is a dentist, he had always been interested in the concept of both past and future lives. I don't believe that qualifies as a "bias." He could very well have regressed people who told him they were some of the most famous people in history and he continued to believe in this theory but, as he stated in his book, not only was this *not* the case (in the thousands of regressions he's done, not one person was a famous individual from history) but he saw peoples' phobias and fears vanish after therapy and that's something that you just cannot fake no matter how hard you try. Truth be told, a few chapters were a bit clinical. He went into explanations of the karmic cycle and the different levels of regression (some involving rapid eye movement - R.E.M.). The subject matter was interesting but the writing itself was a bit clinical and could lose the casual reader if they choose not to stick around. Other than that, Dr. Goldberg's book was a very interesting read. I was fascinated by the fact that there's even going to *be* a world in the 23rd and 24th centuries (and beyond!) with the way things are going nowadays. As with past life regressions, the future life progressions he featured basically said the same thing about the state of the world in the future (which doesn't look very good. It seems as though peace can only be achieved through scientifically altering people before birth to conform to certain standards. If it's not religious kooks messing up the world, I guess science will take the place of that backwards movement in the future). In any case, this book is worth the time and the money and is further evidence (to me, anyway) that past life regression (and, in some cases, future life progression) therapy can be more beneficial than conventional therapy (no need to be drugged up all the time is a wonderful benefit of said therapy). Highly recommended.
My first and favorite past life book to date September 19, 2005 Nancy Dark (Colorado Springs, CO) I read this many years ago, and this is the ideal 'starter' book for people interested in the subject, but aren't yet sold on the idea. I have read some books on past lives that romanticized too often on the subject. This book is a great read and entertaining even if you arent sold on the whole reincarnation idea.
Passable for a real neophyte to the concept of reincarnation November 20, 2004 Penny Duff (St. Petersburg, Florida) 12 out of 15 found this review helpful
I picked up this book because I was interested in future life progressions. As one fairly conversant with the doctrines of reincarnation and recognizing this book was written over 20 years ago, my concerns are as fresh as they would have been when the book was first available: (1) a total lack of objectivity. Dr. Goldberg has his own spiritual beliefs about reincarnation and things surrounding reincarnation, and he teaches and preaches from that viewpoint. Unfortunately, he fails to make it clear that he is teaching his personal dogma. (2)He is quick to condemn. I was particularly struck by his blanket condemnation of all witchcraft, all covens, and by extension, all magical practices. This bespeaks ignorance of the subject and comes from a fairly narrow view, much as if I were to give a blanket condemnation of Christianity. Personally, I believe Christianity to be far more dangerous, but I recognize that this is opinion, and don't preach it as fact. (3) Overall, I found his research and techniques very disorganized. To me, this is rather sad for an accomplished hypnotist, because it diminishes his effectiveness. Both in his writing and reporting, and in his interviews, I felt he could greatly improve both interview and writing style by having a better idea of where he is going and the cues given by subjects. Personally, Dr. Goldberg is not a practitioner I would select to help me with regression or progression, based on my experience with this book. There are other authors dealing with the subject. I would direct the interested reader to a more solid author, such as Brian Weiss.
not that good July 14, 2004 Mike (usa) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I got this book because I read the Past Lives Future Healing by Sylvia Browne and thought that it would also be interesting to read a little about Future Lives. And the Sylvia's past life book was very good so I thought it would also be interesting to read about it again. But Not only did I not buy the future lives part, the past lives part was not believable at all and not interesting. I came into this book thinking that even if I didn't believe in the book, it would atleast be juicy or something. But it wasn't. I found no proof in his past lives part or future lives.
Wonderful June 16, 2004 R. Ensley (Hiram, GA United States) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I adore this book. It was so fascinating and so enlightening I was truly impressed. If you ever wondered if you had a past life or wondered why you do some of the things you do now ... maybe it's the secrets lie closer than you realize.
