5 out of 5 stars I've Been Waiting for This Message for A Long Time   August 19, 2008

My rating is not for the literary quality, but for the message. While I'm not a biblical scholar by any means, I'm not sure the objections raised by some of the other reviewers (that The Shack is contrary to the Bible) are correct. In fact, the lessons imparted by The Shack seem closer to the Truth as related by the Bible than the bland, predigested message typically doled out by organized religion (at least the organized religion of my youth). In any case, while the last few years have seen quite a personal crisis of faith for me, I feel this book is leading me back into a personal relationship with God. Despite the objections others have raised, isn't that what it's all about? I find I can more easily believe in and love the God portrayed in The Shack than I can the impersonal, unapproachable, and frankly bad-tempered God of the church of my youth. I can definitely understand why supporters of organized religion would feel very threatened and offended by this book. To me, I felt like a man dying of thirst who finally got a drink of cool, clean water when I read this book. I'll conclude by saying: don't let other people make up your mind for you. If reading this book will damage your faith in God, then your faith was pretty weak to begin with. Read it for yourself and make up your own mind.

1 out of 5 stars The God of William Young   August 19, 2008

After reading this novel, and regretting the time spent doing so, I opened up Bruce Milne's book "Know the Truth" and recalibrated myself:

"Our knowledge of God comes through the Bible. He has caused it to be written and through it speaks to us today as he spoke to his people when those words were first given. The Bible is to be received as God's words to us and revered and obeyed as such. As we submit to its authority we place ourselves under the authority of the living God who is made known to us supremely in Jesus Christ."

If "The Shack" represents God accurately, the Bible is wrong. If the Bible represents God accurately, "The Shack" is wrong. To submit to the God of the Bible is to reject the God of William Young's book.

1 out of 5 stars Don't bother unless you believe in the bible   August 18, 2008

I believe in God but not in religion. This book was so corny in parts it made my face hurt. God is portrayed like a character from the Matrix movies. Tried my best to derive some entertainment value out of it but only got a quarter of the way through. Gag. Hadn't given up on a book in many years.

5 out of 5 stars A beautiful love story about our relationship with the Trinity   August 18, 2008

I consider myself a Christian and for many years have tried to understand the bible, its teachings and the Trinity. For those of you who have a hard time with the Characters, I found them to be wonderful, who are we to judge that God, Christ and the Holy Spirit can't be in whatever likeness they choose to be. We all have to remember that this author brought us this story because he wanted to explain to his children the Trinity. To me it was a beautiful story that I found myself living through his words. No matter what people feel about his writing, I felt he touched on alot of emotions and feelings that I questioned, but see them now so much more clearly. I will take the joy that I received from this book and apply it to my everyday life and share it with many. No matter what your religion or your views, the author has given us a gift a story that makes us stop and look at our lives and our relationship with God.
