Most books for expecting mothers are fear based, such as "What to expect when you're expecting." Not so with this book. I used this "HypnoBirthing" book and the hypnobirthing technique for my first birth and had a fun, wonderful and pain-free experience. The book contains both the history of and techniques for a better birthing experience. I recommend this book to everyone. If you can find a hypnobirthing instructor in your area, to go along with the book, all the better.

Many of you mentioned that this book is meant to be a companion to the Hypnobirthing class and b/c of that you felt you were missing information.... The book that is more comprehensive is _Hypnobirthing: The Mongan Method_. It does explain things more fully with diagrams, etc. Check out that one and the user reviews there. It's really helpful.

Instead of this book try Hypnobabies, they have a VERY complete Home Study Course and also offer live classes across the USA and even in Australia. This book is meant to accompany the live classes.

I taught myself Hypnobirthing with the book and the CD. I listened to the tapes everynight. When it came time for birth the relaxations worked wonderfully. I had the best birth experience thanks to Marie Mongan. I would buy stock in her product!
