Escape November 20, 2008 Amy (NC) I loved this book. It was the perfect fun easy intriguing book to read before bed. I had trouble putting it down. I agree with other reviewers that if what you want is a bloody Vampire book this is not your book. This is more about the inner struggle between good and evil, and of course about passion and love. My other favorite books are in the Harry Potter Series and East of Eden. Somehow there is a similiar thread. People keep saying this is a YA book. I am not so sure. I think I can identify with Bella and the way she feels about Edward only because I have 35 years and numerous relationships to look back on. I'll also say I am overly educated and I don't feel this book is "beneath me"-it might just appeal more to a certain personality whatever the age and education.
AMAZINGG!!! November 20, 2008 Pig Pen 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love these books! They're amazing. You have to read them all, no excuses. One of my friends made me read twilight and I'm officially addicted. You don't exactly have to buy the book because these books are everywhere, and you could just get it from the library, but if you love it like I do- you'll want your own copy to read whenever you want. TEAM EDWARD :)
This book is more for the romantic than the blood-thirsty! November 20, 2008 varoyer (louisiana) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I picked up this book because of the movie trailers. Once I started reading it, I hated to put it down. For me that is the ultimate compliment. If you are looking for a lot of fighting, blood shed and sex, DO NOT buy this book - You will be disappointed. The book even SKIPS OVER the fight scene you see on the movie trailer. (For that I was a little disappointed.) However, it was written to make the reader feel the characters' love and pain. I must say I certainly did. I guess mostly because in high school I fell deeply in love with a blonde haired, pale-skinned boy. I truely saw fireworks on our first kiss and I felt pain in my heart when we fought or were not together for more than a day. I could relate to Bella in so many ways. I was never graceful or athletic. I was always the smart one who never had much luck with the boys, until the ONE came along. So yes, I believe it is possible to be that crazy and painfully in love with someone, even if (especially if) they are dangerous. I must admit I feel a little silly for being addicted to this book about high school kids, since I'm a 35 yr old professional mom and all. But at the same time I can still relate to the story because my husband (who was not my high school sweetheart) is a bit dangerous. There is always something SEXY about dangerous men. Anyway, if you enjoy a good romantic fantasy, I HIGHLY recommend this book. I am about to buy the next in the series.
dont we all wish we have an edward? November 20, 2008 I. Wong (Tokyo) ok this is not boys. it is a total girly book. edward would make any girls melt. one of the best romance i read. this is best book out of the 3! bella gets too annoying with jacob later for my taste.
Storyline intrigued... the written word annoyed November 19, 2008 Thurschild (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
With all the hype of this series (and movie) it seemed appropriate to read this book just to see what made it such a phenomenon. It took me only a day to read because it was written so simply, although it is verbose. The storyline itself is so far from reality it was a nice break indeed. I agree with other reviewers on many things including the lack of depth in the characters and constant reminder of the cold, stone-like vampire who was so beautiful. As an adult I can appreciate it as a YA novel, but it seems that it may tell teenage girls everywhere it's ok to be a melodramatic damsel in distress (the only way her hero will be there to save her) as far as I know needing someone that much - and rather die than to be without them -can be a very unhealthy dose of medicine. Keep in mind this is a FANTASY WORLD the author has created. Hopefully the movie captures the intrigue... it will certainly cut out all the wordiness.
