| Customer Reviews:
Not too bad--a little overpriced July 26, 2008 John R. Prince (Fort Worth, TX United States) I am 38, I have a few other "magic kits", and decided to try this as my kids (7 and 6) enjoy it when I perform a "magic show" for them. I am certainly not a magician, but can usually get by with some instructions and props and know close to 30 tricks. This kit is not too bad, but I think it is overpriced. It claims 25 different tricks, but nine of them are "rope tricks". Tie a knot with one hand, tie the rope through the ring and then it magically un-ties, etc. All of the rope tricks are pretty lame and quite time-consuming. It has a thin box with a double bottom. Three of the tricks use that prop, but they are the same thing really: make coins disappear/re-appear, make a card disappear/re-appear, and make a dollar bill disappear/re-appear. This is really just one prop that can be used to hide/display anything that will fit in it. The one I was most excited about (turning water into ice) is pretty cheesy. You pour water into a coned cup, which has "false bottom" that you can take out and it is supposed to look like ice, but it doesn't. Ironcially, my kids LOVED that trick, but it really just looks like another cup with water in it. It does have some cool tricks, however. Two cups where after you put a coin in them, if you turn them over in a precise direction, the coins will not fall out (making it look like they disappeared). A rope you can put in a bottle and then can lift the rope and the bottle (but you have to sneak a little bead into the bottle first). The Svengali cards are cool, but you can get those anywhere. The best prop is the magic wand. You can very easily make it look like it is levitating UP through your hand with a 3/4 open palm. I was actually very impressed with this, as were my kids and even my wife. ;-) The instructions are HORRIBLE (you can tell they were translated from another language as the English is very poor). The DVD is the saving grace as I could not do a single trick by reading the instructions. All in all, it is decent at best. For the money I spent ($38.00) I would have expected something more. I'd say from this kit, I've added maybe 10 of the "25" tricks to my repertoire.
