Just AMAZING! February 3, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
WARNING: First of all, if you don't get this, you might as well quit magic right now, as you'll never get people to freak out and go into shock with your tricks. -- EASE: Within 15.. no.. 5 minutes of watching MindReach and ReadMinds, i was performing them. the Sponge Ball Routine is just mindblowing to the spectator(and so simple you will laugh), and the Push-In sponge vanish is so easy you will be doing it in about 15 minutes. TRICKS: Every trick in this DVD is razor-sharp and gauranteed to get reactions. 9/10(10 is reserved for real magic) PRICE: The biddle trick is worth the price of the DVD alone, and the MindReach and Push-IN Sponge Vanish are worth just more.. $[...]is a STEAL! 10/10
Inside Magic by Ellusionist and Brad Christian November 30, 2006 E. Stasielowicz (Montreal, QC CAN) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I just want to start off saying that this is an amazing DVD, everyone should own it. Trick 1: ReadMinds - A person picks a card and you tell them what it is by reading their mind. This trick is ok, but not something I would use over and over. It teaches a force that can't be learned everywhere, but one that I probably wont ever use Trick 2: MindReach - A deck is spread across the table face down. Each card that you tell them to touch, is shown to be that card. This trick is amazing. It's not great for street magic, but I do it whenever I'm at a gathering or with some friends. It's utterly impossible yet so simple. Great trick. Trick 3: French Drop - A coin vanishes from your bare hand and reappears anywhere you want. The French Drop is a classic coin vanish. The way that Brad teaches it is amazing, so amazing that you will have it down so fast. Trick 4: Wave the Aces - A selected card appears between two aces. This is a trick that I use all the time. It is super simple yet so visual. If you want to perform a trick that David Blaine uses, this is the one for you! Trick 5: Card in Mouth - The spectator selects a card which appears folded up inside the magicians mouth. This is another great T.V. effect. I love this trick, whenever I perform it, people scream, run away and jump around. A great reveal of a card. Trick 6: Haunted Folding Bill - A dollar bill laying on your hand just starts folding itself up into quarters. This is a HIGHLY visual trick that is made easy by Brad Christian. He teaches you how to make your own gimmick in a matter of minutes. I love performing this in front of a mirror, it freaks me out even when I know the method. Inside Magic 2: This is the section of the DVD that is a little harder, but the tricks are worth the practice. Trick 1: Sponge Balls - A sponge ball is placed into the spectators hands and when they open their hands, there are two. Then then two are placed in their hand and when they open their hand again, there are 10. A great sponge ball routine that was seen on a David Blaine special. Very simple and very rewarding. I love watching peoples faces when the sponge balls appear in drastic numbers. Trick 2: Push-in Sponge Vanish - Imagine CLEARLY pushing a ball into your closed hand then slowly opening it to show it has completely VANISHED. The ball is then pulled back out of anywhere. Yet another helpful sleight using sponge balls taught in detail by Brad that the spectators will not believe. Trick 3: Biddle Trick - A selected card vanishes from the magician's hands to the deck the spectator is holding. The card appears in that deck, FACE UP. This trick is amazing, I still use it today. It is probably my favourite card trick that I have ever learned. It is so simple, so visual and so amazing. Trick 4: Flourishes - This section of the DVD teaches you a few flourishes including a coin roll which is a very fun way to play with a coin. Trick 5: Lightning Coin Vanish - The magician places a coin in his hand and makes it vanish. But it appears in his other hand. I bought the DVD for this trick, but was a little dissapointed, the method isn't great, but it still looks amazing. Trick 6: Slydini Cigarette Restoration - A cigarette broken into 3 pieces visually changes into one. This is a great trick which I perform with chalk. It is very visual when done right and is simply amazing. Overall, this is a great, great, great beginners DVD and can benefit a lot of people! I highly recommend it!
Inside Magic: An excellent teaching source for ANYONE November 30, 2006 Henrik Lindblad 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was one of my first ellusionist purchases, and also my first step into the magic community. Even though I purchased this several years ago, and I've been doing magic for over 4 years, several of these tricks are still things I perform. Card in Mouth and the Biddle Trick are two of the most mind blowing card effects in the world today. They get reactions like you wouldn't believe. The Sponge Balls routine and the French Drop are classics of magic and are excellent effects to show young kids, because you can keep their attention and really connect with them. I believe that this is a wonderful DVD with teaching by Brad Christian himself, who is, at least for me, up there with the great teachers such as Dai Vernon and Jay Sankey. Ever since I got this DVD I've been diving more and more into magic, and I am now a skillful and confident performer, but without this DVD I would have none of the skills I have now. This is a great starting DVD or a continuation of skills you already posess, I highly recommend this DVD to anyone that is willing to put the time in to become a truly great magician. Review of the actual tricks included in the Inside Magic DVD by Ellusionist January 29, 2006 Reviews-Ellusionist (USA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
-------------------------------------- Review of actual tricks included in Inside Magic on DVD ----> - By Brian Mathers, Reviewer Trick 1: ReadMinds - A person picks a card and you tell them what it is by reading their mind. In this effect Brad teaches a very useful and versatile force not taught in many books. Forget the cross-cut, riffle force, classic force, etc. You will soon be using and loving this one. Trick 2: MindReach - A pack of cards are spread face down on the table. You tell a spectator to touch the five of spades - they touch a card and it is the five of spades. They do this again and again with different cards - at your will. You can borrow any pack to do this. Trick 3: French Drop - A coin vanishes from your bare hand and reappears anywhere you want. How complicated can learning a French drop be? With Brad's teaching you will be performing this extremely effective sleight in a matter of minutes. No more re-reading pages, rewinding VCR's wondering what they are trying to explain. Includes a little known "visual retention" addition that FORCES the spectator to believe that the coin is in your hand. Trick 4: Wave the Aces - A trick that came into the spotlight on national television recently. You will learn an effective handling of this magnificent feat that will leave the spectator speechless... until you nail him or her with another trick you learn in this video. Trick 5: Card in Mouth - When the magician has seemingly lost the spectator's card in the deck, the magician coughs it up out of his mouth - folded up into a tiny packet, it REALLY IS the exact same card. Another great reaction getter performed on TV. Brad teaches you step-by-step how to perform and accomplish, along with how to present this winning illusion. Trick 6: Haunted Folding Bill - A dollar bill laying on your hand just starts folding itself up into quarters... one of the most eerie effects in magic. Forget about spending $12 on purchasing a folding bill that is hard to work with. Brad teaches how to make your own high quality bill to use for this trick. You will also learn how to give the BILL YOU JUST USED out for immediate examination. Inside Magic 2: Now we turn it up a notch. These take a little more practice but boy are they worth it! Trick 1: Sponge Balls - A classic effect that will leave the audience laughing in awe. This will also come in handy if you ever perform at a kids party or to younger children. If you have the extra money, purchase the balls directly from ellusionist (you'll be automatically taken to the correct screen after ordering). Trick 3: Biddle Trick - Words cannot accurately describe this effect, which is now one of my top favorites to perform. The first time you see this you will be utterly stunned and mystified - eager to learn the secret behind this incredible effect Brad brings to you. Though Brad's teaching the Biddle Count becomes simple to learn and YOU will be doing it within MINUTES. This is worth the video by itself. A card, seen only seconds before, vanishes from the performer's hands and reappears in the deck held in the spectator's hands. Trick 4: Flourishes - A couple great flourishes you see people perform regularly on TV. These will really enhance your magic if they are inserted correctly and not overly done. Yes, this is a preview sample from How to do Street Magic. Trick 5: Lightning Coin Vanish - I was dumbfounded by this only to learn how easy it really is. This is what you see Brad perform in the previews using the house key. EFFECT: A coin is borrowed and placed on the table, the magician then quickly moves his fingertips straight over it and the coin vanishes. The magician's other hand is then picked up and the coin is found under that hand. Trick 6: Slydini Cigarette Restoration - An ingenious and perfectly devised effect created by legendary mastermind known as Slydini. Brad taches IN DEPTH how to master this effect, what misdirection to use (vital), and how to end clean. Yet another astounding illusion compiled into the gift by ellusionist . - By Brian Mathers, Reviewer.
Inside Magic Training DVD Review by Graeme Craig January 29, 2006 GraemeCraig (Canada) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Seriously...this...video...is...insane.. . From the moment I looked at the DVD case I knew this video was amazing. How can you not?? A sleek black case with a set of mysterious eyes looking back at you and Brad crouching down holding the 7 of diamonds, looking very magical let me tell you. I could go on describing the case all night, but I'm sure you guys would rather do other stuff rather then read about a DVD case. THE VIDEO: GREAT quality. Opening sequence shows you all the moves in the video which are quite superb. After they are finished it lets you choose to see Inside Magic 1, Inside Magic 2 or Previews. Once you go into either Inside Magic 1 or Inside Magic 2 you can choose between watching the whole thing at once, or effect by effect. This DVD is super easy to control, even for a guy like me who has trouble with microwaves, eeesh. All in all this is a great quality DVD with equally great control which are super important on a DVD. Now to the real McCoy (whatever that is). THE EFFECTS: Well scratch my elbow and rub my ear, by golly these effects are here! And what great effects as well. I'll break each one down individually so I can extensively give you the pros and cons of each. INSIDE MAGIC 1- These effects are easier to do then the ones in volume 2, but they are still amazing effects that will knock the socks off your audience. Read Minds: This is a great force but I'm more of a classic force type. This force is relatively simple to do, just requires practicing a couple of times to get the basic move down. Just to let you know this was my least favourite part of video but that's only because I've got a great force I always use. Pros- When well done is very hard to get caught Good force for beginners who are not comfortable with classic force Cons- A bit angle sensitive Sometimes tough to get into position for It's not the classic force Mind Reach: This is a classic mind reading trick which Brad teaches very well. A spectator mixes cards all over a table and is asked to touch the 4 of spades, then the 8 of clubs followed by the 9 of diamonds. Performer is shocked to see spectator has gotten them all right. Performer attempts to find one too and miraculously both the spectators' cards and the performer's card are shown to be the exact one's performer named! When performed well this one is GREAT. Pros- A great impromptu effect Ability to do to numerous spectator's at once No difficult sleights Cons- Does not work on super observant spectator Requires a high level of presentation French Drop: Grandpa's trick itself. Performer takes a coin and makes it dissapear; it is then pulled from spectator's ear! I'm sure you know how this effect works but I'm also sure you do not know the proper way to accomplish the sleight. Brad goes in depth teaching you the subtleties of this classic coin sleight. Beware, this is not meant to be a stand alone effect, more a tool you can use to accomplish other effects. Pros- Great teaching on this one One of most versatile sleights in coin magic Can be used in any situation Cons- Needs good showmanship Performer needs to be 100% confident when performing this sleight Wave the Aces: This is now one of my favourite effects to perform. Spec selects a card. Meanwhile performer has taken the two black aces out of deck. The aces are left out of deck and spec's card (can be signed) is placed in deck and lost. Performer takes both aces and begins waving them over the deck, when he stops shaking there is a card face down in between the 2 aces. It's the spec's card! Pros- Great impromptu effect Sleight is very smooth and subtle, with hardly any chance of being caught Great opening effect Spectators FREAK Cons- Move can be seen as sneaky and fishy Performer must be very confident in the move or else spec will suspect something Card in Mouth: You've seen David Blaine do it to the group of Asians. Now you can too. Performer can't seem to find the spectator's card, but wait! Performer starts coughing and...a card appears in their mouth! It is the spec's card! This version also allows the card to be signed. Pros- Very hard-hitting and entertaining Impossible to comprehend from audience's point of view Card can be signed, which makes it even more impossible Cons- Move takes A LOT of guts to do, something not all performers have Must be done very smoothly or else spec will instantly know how it is done Haunted Folding Bill- WOW! This effect looks like REAL magic. Performer holds a dollar bill and mysteriously, with performer not even moving, the bill starts to slowly fold itself. The bill is immediately handed out for examination, nothing on it! This effect is AMAZING, I just tried it the other day; you will freak yourself out performing this, never mind the audience. Pros- Absolutely beautiful looking effect Very easy to do Fully examinable Can be done surrounded Cons- This is a gimmick and can be a pain to make Extra material needed Here Inside Magic 1 DVD ends and the 2nd volume continues the teaching ------> INSIDE MAGIC 2- Inside Magic's effects are harder then those in Volume 1, but with enough practice you will soon be performing these and absolutely LOVING them. Sponge Balls- What can I say about the sponge balls? First off make sure to pick up some sponge balls from E with your order, they are very high quality sponges which are very fun and easy to work with. This routine is SO much fun to do, it's not even funny. You will have audiences howling with laughter and amazement, not to mention you will be very entertained as well just seeing the reactions. Sponges disappear, then multiply, then disappear again, before multiplying even more! I'm lovin' it! Pros- Very fun to do Gets incredible audience reactions Audience is very involved You really feel GOOD doing it Many different variations of it, many you can make yourself Cons- One step of the routine requires great casualness and confidence from performer This isn't a con, but make sure to pick up sponge balls from E when you order this Push-In Sponge Vanish- This is a great utility move to add into your sponge ball routine. A sponge ball is pushed into the performer's fist and it disappears! It can then be revealed from many different places. Pros- Great move to add into your sponge ball routine After sponge disappears there are many places you can reveal the sponge ball Very visual vanish Cons- Angle sensitive Does not work on super observant spectators Biddle Trick- I can't even begin to describe this effect in words you can post on Ellusionist. This is my absolute FAVOURITE effect to perform in my whole repertoire of magic! A card that performer was holding instantly appears upside down in pack spectator was holding the whole time! The card can be signed, no duplicates used! I have performed this effect literally 50 times in a week, to everyone from old ladies on a bus, to my science teacher, to my parents, to Tom Cruise (joking on last one). Every single person flipped out when I showed them. There is no explanation, its pure magic. This effect will make your spectator's cry in amazement, just because it's so impossible! Pros- Totally impromptu Card can be signed Spectators will hug you and kiss you it's so good Very simple to do Can be performed from the street to the stage It just looks impossible Cons- The basic move can cause people who aren't familiar with cards some trouble Flourishes- Here Brad teaches the Coin Roll (rolling a coin across your fingers), one handed cut, a card fan and how to spread cards across the table. The only thing I took out of this was the Coin Roll since I knew how to do the other ones but Brad's teaching was excellent on it, and you would be able to learn all of these moves fast. Pros- Moves look beautiful Relatively easy to do Fun to practice Cons- If you own Street Magic Package you won't learn anything new Can take time to get the knack of doing the moves Lightning Coin Vanish- This move looks crazy! Performer is holding a coin at his fingertips, he quickly moves his hands forwards and instantly the coin is shown to be under other hand! This move is so quick, audience will need to see it twice, and by all means show them again! This move can be repeated many times with enough skill. This is a great move to do and is also very simple. Pros- Very visual Angle proof Can be repeated Looks insane Cons- It is a gimmick and making it can be a pain Requires other material Slydini Cigarette Restoration- A cigarette is broken into 3 pieces then visually restored. This is an amazing move invented by the great Slydini who Brad trained under for a while. This effect looks absolutely stunning, but it will take ALOT of practice to master. I must say that after practicing this effect for a long time, and finally being able to practice in front of a mirror, I definitely recommend taking the time and learning this one, because it is absolutely magnificent. Pros- One of the most beautiful effects in all of magic Can use pencils, toothpicks etc. instead of a cigarette When mastered looks like real magic, and will amaze spectators greatly Cons- Takes LOTS of practice Needs great misdirection and timing Needs to be performed at a table The video finishes with Brad thanking you for watching video, then the credits roll. This video absolutely blew my mind on what one man (Brad Christian) can teach about magic. This video was a blast to watch and I will use the effects learnt in the video for years to come. My sincerest thanks goes out to Mr. Brad Christian and all the Ellusionist staff for making such a wonderful video. I HIGHLY recommend buying this video. You will love it, I know I did. Thank you. __________________ Graeme-
